We are just back from a birding trip to Spain and I cannot recommend Yimi enough. What an absolutely amazing day and a wonderful experience for all of us. My daughter, 12, is a very keen birder and was eager to go to Spain to experience the wonderful bird life it has to offer. I googled bird guides near Segovia and came across Yimi who does a variety of different birding days depending on what you want to see. We decided on the mountain walk for alpine birds and birds of prey partly because it would be cooler at altitude than in the town. But also to see some of the brilliant birds you can see high up. And what a treat it was. We met at an altitude of 1,858 metres and walked to the TV transmitter on Alto de las Guarramillas which sits at 2,275 metres. The TV transmitter is a star in its own right, it really looks like a page from Tintin: Destination Mars. Right at the start we saw shrikes (daughter’s favourite birds), a rare occurrence at that height. We saw at least 23 different species of birds, 7 or 8 of which were lifers for me and my daughter. And the highlight, a blue throat and then amazingly, a Spanish Imperial Eagle we watched soaring down to the river in order to take a drink. Magnificent, and thank goodness we had Yimi to point all of this out to us, as we would have missed most of it. It’s not just birds you see, there are plenty of butterflies including the Queen of Spain fritillary, lizards aplenty and Ibex. Yimi and his partner Nadia, who came to greet us early in the morning, despite feeling poorly, are fabulous. They made us feel very welcome and my daughter said Yimi ‘is the best’ and is still talking about the trip now. Una magnífica experiencia por el embalse de Santillana, para fotografiar y aprender el nombre de aves que desconocía completamente.

Se nota su experiencia, resolvió todas nuestras dudas y se adaptó a nuestro ritmo. Una manera diferente y enriquecedora de descubrir la biodiversidad de la Sierra Madrileña.
